Machinery Foundations Dynamical Analysis: A Case Study on Reciprocating Compressor Foundation

A faulty dynamical interaction between a machine and foundation can lead to unexpected dangerous failures, impacting human lives the environment. Some machines, as reciprocating compressors, have low rotation speed; this frequency for blocks. For reason, careful analysis shall be done during design phase avoid range of resonances vibration speeds. Designers approach problem by relying both on Analytical Theory Finite Element Analysis. This article compares these methods studying response different geometries in case study compressor foundation. The applicability limits theory are explored an evaluation difference estimation natural frequencies system using Elements Analysis made geometries. comparison shows similar results until geometry is rigid; reference provided so that designers choose which better suits their type analysis.
